Minnie Mouse Birthday Party
For our Three Year Old Daughter

My wife had long planned for a Minnie Mouse Birthday Party for our three year old daughter, as usual, many months before her actual birthday. The idea had been in her mind since the kids had grown an endearing following to the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Nick Jr.

But in an unfortunate and shocking set of circumstances, my wife got into a car accident the November prior to the March party. She tried to stop a rolling minivan with our two year old daughter inside, but the momentum of the vehicle dragged her on the ground and into a tree, rupturing her kidney and fracturing her spine, but not before the deeply heroic act of saving her daughter’s life.

After the initial shock, the next several months proved to be a challenging and difficult time in our lives as we managed to raise three children while she healed.

It was inevitable that her kidney would no longer function, but the threat of removing it compromised her plans to decorate and throw her daughter the long dreamed Minnie Mouse Birthday Party.

As the decision came closer, hope for the healing grew less optimistic, yet we urged the doctor to continue waiting with us for the chance it might stop bleeding. He was patient with us, and one day, on the Valentine’s before our daughter’s Match third birthday, he ran some tests and told us that, while the kidney will never function, we could avoid having to remove it as well as the many months of further recovery time.

My wife and I were ecstatic with the news, and she went home and continued to plan and decorate for our daughter’s Minnie Mouse Birthday Party.

As her birthday approached, we concentrated now on my wife’s spine physical therapy and celebrated her walking again, even if with a walker. By the time our daughter’s birthday came along, she was able to enjoy it, glowing with beauty, courage and strength.

And our daughter had an amazing third birthday with her Minnie Mouse party! She had anticipated it since she saw the weeks long decorating event unfold and knew it was all for her special day.

My wife’s birthday cupcakes were a hit, our daughter loved her party, gifts and family time, and we all enjoyed the beautiful Minnie Mouse party she created for our daughter’s third birthday.

I’m greatly thankful for my wife’s health and for her ability to bravely save our daughter’s life!
