Leap Frog Text and Learn

Leap Frog Text and Learn is a great little text messaging simulator for toddlers designed by the LeapFrog company. It is recommended for children 3 to 5 years old and comes complete with a QUERTY keyboard, a black and white screen, and comes with several letter learning, calendar, text messaging, shapes and paths modes, as well as a connection to the LeapFrog Learning Path online for parents.

My wife bought this little texting game for our son’s third birthday and he really loved it. It wasn’t as educational as some of the other LeapFrog items she got for him like the Scribble and Write, but it solidified the sounds of the alphabet and helped him learn to follow directions with his cute sounding puppy pal Scout!

In addition to the alphabet, he’s played extensively with the shapes mode and just recently started getting into the texting and Scout’s calendar. Scout has a great calendar too, going to the beach on Tuesday then the dentist on Thursday.

More recently, our 20 month old daughter started picking it up for herself, really rediscovering it after playing with it some months back, and now has become one of her favorites. She recognizes Scout’s voice from her My Pal Violet, which is really Scout’s feminine counterpart sharing the identical voice. As the alphabet sounds off the letters, T says “ttt” she giggles and wiggles to it with smiles cheek to cheek in pure child like delight.

She absolutely loves that toy, and of course her brother has now recaptured his interest in it now that his sister adores it. But ultimately he’s benefited from most other LeapFrog educational toys, this one seems to be more fun for the little ones and the target audience of 5 might be stretching it. Still, at around $18.00 with amazon’s super saver shipping, it’s worth the several months of joy the Leap Frog Text and Learn offers.
